Ontario Smallmouth Bass Fishing

We have excellent Smallmouth Bass fishing on our lake. With all the islands, shoals and rocky points, the environment is perfect to grow large populations. Wangoon Lake is a typical Canadian Shield lake, thus the bass are mostly found in areas where there are lots of minnows and crayfish. The bass in our lake are also really hard fighting and go strait for the air when you hook them. Nothing is more exciting that watching a big bass jump several times while you bring him in.

The Smallmouth Bass in our lake average about 1 pound but there are many bass up to the 5-pound mark being caught. Early spring to mid June is the prime time for bass as they have just finished spawning and are concentrated in the shallows. While Walleye fishing, you will catch Smallmouth as well.

Small spinner baits, small crank baits, tube worms, night crawlers and minnows all work best in our lake. Some of the bigger bass can be caught in the deeper water with tube worms.
